MASTER DEGREE PROGRAM IN Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese herbal medicine specialization (MAcCHM)

California University – Silicon Valley (CUSV) Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese herbal medicine specialization program consists of 2,145 didactic clock-hours (143 semester units) of academic course work and 960 clock-hours (32 semester credits) of clinical internship at the University’s Intern Clinic totaling 3,105 clock-hours (175 semester credits).

The entire program is conducted in residence at the university’s instructional facility and Intern Clinic. The program takes a minimum of 36 months to complete, may be completed in a maximum of eight calendar years, and is the equivalent of a four-year academic program. There are 45 instructional weeks per calendar year, which is divided into 3 trimesters or 135 instructional weeks in total.

Course Work

2,145 hours (143 units) of academic course work.

      • Oriental medical theory, diagnosis and treatment techniques in acupuncture and related studies

      • Didactic Oriental herbal and formula studies

      • Integrated acupuncture and herbal clinical training,

      • Biomedical clinical sciences.

      • Counseling, communication, ethics and practice management

    Clinical Internship

    Based on the student’s level of mastery, the clinic faculty will guide and support the student in assuming greater responsibility for patient care while under close supervision.

    960 hours (32 units) of clinical internship at the university clinic.

    Total 175 Units / 3105 Hours

    Graduation and License

    Upon the successful completion of the Masters program, students are eligible to take the California Acupuncture Licensing examination given by the California Acupuncture Board. Students are also qualified to sit for the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) certification examinations.
